Triangle – Astérides – Residency
This residency took place at Triangle – Astérides, based at Friche la Belle de Mai in Marseille. The program brought together artists for several months of research, studio work and collective exchange within the city. Part of the time was dedicated to material experimentation in the studio, developing a series of large paper works exploring opacity and image formation through mixtures of watercolor, oil and masking fluid. These experiments investigated the thresholds between drawing, painting and photographic traces.
The residency also unfolded through open studio moments and informal presentations with other artists working at the Friche, including Ife Day, Maya Mihindou, Ziphozenkosi Dayile and Belinda Zhawi, as well as visiting artists and collaborators such as Aurilian, Fabienne Gilbert Burgoa and Simon Bérard. These exchanges created a space for discussion around diasporic histories and language.
Several visits and research sessions took place across Marseille, including consultations of the archives of the Mucem and encounters with artist-run spaces in the city. The residency intersected with the program Commun·e, developed in the framework of Africa2020, bringing together artists, curators and writers for presentations and collective discussions.
