La Facultad is a multilingual vocal performance structured as fragments of film annotations centered on voice, breathing and trance. Moving across Spanish, French, English and Nahuatl, the text unfolds through repetition, translation and accumulation rather than narrative progression.
It was first presented during the Salon de Montrouge’s day-long program dedicated to artists’ performances. Conceived as a moment of heightened attention and shared presence, the performance engaged the exhibition’s broader concerns with temporality, visibility and encounter.
The work draws on Gloria Anzaldúa’s notion of la facultad, the capacity to perceive deeper structures beneath surface phenomena, and repositions it as a sensory and political practice. Smell, sound and atmosphere become modes of knowledge production.
The voice operates through refusal, a refusal of assimilation and of full comprehension, generating a space where the living and the dead coexist. The blurred screen accompanying the performance intensifies this condition, producing a trance-like field in which ghosts return, languages overlap and memory resists erasure.
